Child safety anchors for furniture

Furniture Restraints

In November 2017, Ikea announced the recall of 17.3 million Malm chests of drawers after receiving 186 reports of furniture tipping over, posing serious injury risks. Notably, 91 incidents involved young children, with 8 of those being fatal.

Young children can pull on and climb open drawers, which destabilizes furniture and may cause it to topple. While you can mitigate risks by placing heavier items in bottom drawers and avoiding heavy objects on top, the best prevention method involves securely anchoring furniture to the wall. Don’t assume the restraint kits that come with furniture are adequate. Instead, invest time and money in selecting superior products that suit your needs. Look for fixings with high tensile and cantilever load-bearing capabilities, meaning they can withstand pulling forces (tensile) and pivoting forces (cantilever). For example, picture a toddler tugging at a drawer or using it as a step to reach the top of a dresser. That’s where GeeFix steps in.

With a maximum tensile strength of 71 kilograms and a cantilever strength of 243 kilograms at 75mm from the anchor point, GeeFix  fixings provide an excellent solution for anchoring furniture to cavity walls without studwork. [Click here for further details on our load test data click here].

About GeeFix

A plumbing and heating engineer with over 40 years of experience invented GeeFix. We take pride in the fact that we designed, developed, and manufacture GeeFix in the UK, supporting local industry and British business.

GeeFix was designed to secure heavy items to plasterboard and drywall. Modern homes typically feature studwork and plasterboard, which makes GeeFix the ideal product for hanging heavy objects on cavity walls. You can securely install TVs, radiators, towel rails, shelving, cabinets, cupboards, mirrors, and curtain rails using our fixings.

These hollow wall fixings can also refix an object to a plasterboard wall after a previous fixing has failed. For instance, if a radiator has come away from a wall, you can install a GeeFix fixing in the same position as the failed one, often minimizing repair work on plasterboard.

Additionally, you can adapt these fixings for smaller items, such as bathroom accessories, where fixing holes are close together. In these cases, use one fixing to secure the item by utilizing the length of the backplate in the cavity for added support.
